The Importance of Testing:
Recognizing areas affected by pollution is the first step in healing the land. Comprehensive and regular testing is essential, not only for developing an effective bioremediation strategy but also for ensuring its success.
One of the first steps in bioremediation is a site assessment. A complete site assessment includes testing soil, water, and tissue samples for contaminants of concern. This is done to better understand what contaminants are present at the site, where they are, and how much there is.
EarthRM is in the process of developing both an Analytical and a Biologics lab to better inform our Hawaiʻi communities of the contamination that exists around them, speed up the remediation response time, and work collaboratively to engineer new means of healing sovereign lands and waters through bioremediation.
The Biologics lab equips us and the community with tools such as genetic sequencing and sterile environment access for microbial and fungal propagation, both necessary components to the implementation of bioremediation.
